Emily is a specialist property lawyer with over a decade of experience advising clients across the full spectrum of property and private client matters. She joined Tompkins Wake in 2015 and has since established a reputation as a trusted adviser to significant property developers, rural landowners, agribusiness operators, and private clients.

Emily comes from a rural background, which brings a depth of first-hand knowledge to her rural and agribusiness practice. This background affords her a comprehensive understanding of the operational and commercial realities confronting those in the primary sector.  Emily regularly acts on the acquisition and disposition of rural and agribusiness assets. She has particular expertise in dairy, poultry and dry stock farming.  Emily also has significant experience in rural leasing and grazing agreements.

As New Zealand's energy landscape continues to evolve, Emily advises both utility providers and private clients on electricity matters and renewable energy projects. This includes electrical infrastructure and solar and wind developments, areas of growing importance for rural landowners and developers seeking to maximise the value and productivity of their land. Her rural background provides a practical perspective when advising on projects situated at the intersection of property, energy, and land use. Coupled with her experience in acting for network operators and developers of greenfield renewable projects, Emily is uniquely placed to provide expert advice within this sector.

Emily's practice also encompasses a strong focus on greenfield residential subdivisions and property development. She works alongside prominent developers on large-scale, complex projects, including those spanning 800 or more sections. Notable highlights of her career are her involvement in the Rangitahi Development in Raglan, an ongoing project comprising approximately 600 residential and commercial sections, and the Meadows in north Hamilton, comprising 600+ residential sections.

In addition to her development and rural work, Emily routinely advises individuals, families, and businesses on banking and refinancing matters, trusts and asset protection, wills and estate planning, and relationship property settlements, providing clear and considered advice on matters that are often both financially significant and deeply personal.
