In 2021, Penina graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Criminology.

Before joining Tompkins Wake, she worked as a solicitor at the boutique law firm, primarily specialising in residential property and conveyancing transactions.
